Wild Flowers To Grow

  • In heavy clay soils:
    Aster, Blazingstar, Bergamot, Yellow Coneflower, Black-eyed Susan and Stiff Goldenrod.

  • In dry, sandy soils:
    Bergamot, Black-eyed Susan, Fireweed, Goldenrod, Prairie Smoke, Aster, Prairie Sunflower and Yellow Coneflower.

  • In medium soils (from sandy loams to clay loams):
    Black-eyed Susan, Hyssop, Blazingstar, Goldenrod, Aster, Prairie Sunflower and Yellow Coneflower.

  • In moist soils (there can be standing water for a brief period in spring):
    Bergamot, Anemone, Blazingstar, Goldenrod and Yellow Coneflower.

  • For shade (need a couple of hours of sun a day):
    Bergamot, Anemone, Harebell and Hyssop.

  • To attract butterflies:
    Bergamot, Hyssop, Blazingstar, Aster, Fireweed, Goldenrod, Evening Primrose and Black-eyed Susan.

  • To attract Hummingbirds:
    Blazingstar and Fireweed.

  • For Dried Arrangements:
    Use seedheads of Aster, Yellow Coneflower, Bergamot, Stiff Goldenrod, Hyssop, Prairie Sunflower, Black-eyed Susan, Gaillardia and the flowers of Blazingstar.
