Wild Flower Plots - Seed Production Area

Our seed plots cover four to five acres of marginal farm land.
These wildflower seed production plots take the form of long, forty-inch wide rows planted
between rows of native grass (a weed control measure).
The wild flower seeds used to create these plots were handpicked
from native prairie areas in about a 30 mile radius of St. Benedict.
These plots are an array of color throughout the growing season -
the blue of Flax in the spring; to the pastels of Paintbrush, Gaillardia, Fleabane in
summer; to the yellows of Goldenrod in the fall.
Seed production depends on the weather & precipitation. It is
grown naturally without the aid of fertilizers or irrigation, to help preserve the
naturally qualities of the plants. The soil is similar to the areas that these plants
would grow in the wild.
Seed collection is still done by hand.
Dedicated to Preserving and Restoring Native Canadian Wild Flowers.
